21Shares unveils multi-theme crypto basket ETP

The ETP is positioned as Europe’s most diversified crypto basket ETP.

The 21Shares Future of Crypto Index ETP has been listed on Euronext Paris in euros (Ticker: FUTR FP) and on Euronext Amsterdam in US dollars (FUTR NA).

Covering over 80% of the entire ecosystem, the ETP leverages a dynamic sector allocation strategy designed to balance the portfolio between proven technologies and newer, high-growth opportunities.

It uses full direct, ‘physical’ replication with each ETP share being 100% collateralized by a corresponding investment across the underlying crypto assets which are stored using an institutional-grade cold-storage custody solution.

Hany Rashwan, co-Founder and CEO of 21Shares, commented: “21Shares has been at the forefront of increasing global access to the crypto asset class since inception in 2018 – offering investors a six-year track record of developing, launching, and managing crypto ETPs.

“As 21Shares’ first-ever crypto mega-theme ETP, FUTR represents the next evolution of the firm’s European product lineup and a potential opportunity for investors looking for the next step after allocating to Bitcoin and Ethereum.”

Methodology

The ETP is linked to the 21Shares Future of Crypto Index, which employs the Global Crypto Classification Standard (GCCS) to systematically categorize various projects and crypto assets within the ecosystem. This standard allows the index to provide targeted exposure to six pivotal sub-themes that are anticipated to drive significant growth in the crypto market. Each sub-theme has a designated target weight within the overall basket:

  • Payment Platforms (30% target weight): These are blockchains or protocols that specialize in value transfer.
  • Smart Contract Platforms (30%): These are foundational blockchains that support general-purpose programmability, enabling developers to create smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps).
  • Blockchain Accelerators (10%): These are auxiliary blockchains that significantly enhance the transaction capacity of a primary blockchain while maintaining its security features.
  • Decentralized Finance (10%): This sub-theme comprises digital-first financial systems that operate independently of centralized entities like banks or brokers.
  • AI and Data Solutions (10%): These platforms integrate artificial intelligence and data processing technologies to improve various functions within crypto ecosystems.
  • Social and Gaming (10%): This sub-theme merges blockchain and crypto technologies with the gaming industry, incorporating social features that foster user interaction and community engagement.

Selection criteria within each sub-theme exclude meme tokens, privacy tokens, or any assets with less than $2 million in daily trading liquidity. Assets are typically weighted by market capitalization, with specific rules leading to unique distributions such as Bitcoin exclusively representing the Payment Platforms sub-theme with a 30% weight, and Ethereum consistently weighted at 20% in its category. Post-weighting, any crypto asset below a 0.5% threshold is removed from the index, and its weight is reallocated among the remaining assets within that sub-theme.

The ETP is currently invested in the following crypto assets: Bitcoin (29.4%), Ethereum (20.0%), Solana (7.5%), Uniswap (6.6%), Chainlink (6.2%), AAVE (2.9%), Polygon Ecosystem Token (2.7%), Axie Infinity (2.6%), Stacks (2.6%), Chiliz (2.4%), The Sandbox (2.3%), Decentraland (2.1%), Filecoin (2.0%), Optimism (1.9%), Arbitrum (1.9%), The Graph (1.5%), Cardano (1.4%), Lido DAO (1.3%), Avalanche (1.2%), Mask Network (0.9%), and Starknet (0.7%).
