ETF Securities has cross-listed its three new ‘disruptive technology’ global equity ETFs onto Borsa Italiana.
The ETFS Pharma Breakthrough GO UCITS ETF (BIOT IM), ETFS Ecommerce Logistics GO UCITS ETF (ECOM IM) and ETFS Battery Value-Chain GO UCITS ETF (BATT IM) were launched at the end of January and are already listed on the London Stock Exchange, Deutsche Börse and NYSE Euronext.
The three thematic equity ETFs provide investors with niche exposure to the performance of elements of the e-commerce, pharma and energy-storage-technology sectors.
BIOT tracks the Solactive Pharma Breakthrough Value Index. This index is comprised of biotechnology companies which are actively engaged in the research, development and manufacture of “orphan drugs”. An orphan drug is a pharmaceutical product that has been developed specifically to treat rare diseases or disorders.
Orphan drug revenues grew at a 9.4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2011 to 2016, and are expected to grow at a 11.0% CAGR over the next four years.
The three largest holdings in the index are Spectrum Pharmaceuticals (7.0%), Ono Pharmaceutical Co. (4.6%) and Bukwang Pharmaceutical (4.4%). The index was launched in March 2012 and has since returned 20.9% per annum with volatility at 15.1% p.a. As at 22 February 2018, the index is down 0.8% year to date.
ECOM tracks the performance of the Solactive eCommerce Logistics Index. This index is comprised of companies which provide “logistics” services or software solutions to companies that provide logistics services in connection with e-commerce.
The three largest holdings are Ocado (6.0%), Amazon (5.1%) and XPO Logistics (4.8%). The index was launched in April 2012 and has since returned 17.4% per annum with volatility at 11.7% p.a. As at 22 February 2018, the index has returned 0.4% year to date.
BATT tracks the performance of the Solactive Battery ValueChain Index. This index is comprised of mining companies which produce metals that are primarily used for manufacturing batteries, or companies that develop electro-chemical energy storage technology (i.e. battery technology) and produce batteries.
The three largest holdings in the index are Orocobre (4.5%), Tesla (4.3%) and GS Yuasa Corp (4.2%). The index was launched in May 2012 and has since returned 17.2% per annum with volatility at 14.1% p.a. As at 22 February 2018, the index is down 1.0% year to date.
All three ETFs have an ongoing charge of 0.75%.
