State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), the asset manager behind the SPDR range of ETFs, has expanded its presence in Mexico by cross-listing 31 European-listed UCITS ETFs on the country’s stock exchange, Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BMV).
Heinz Volquarts, Head of Distribution for SPDRs in Latin America, said, “SPDR’s cross-listings reflect our continued focus on Latin American investors for whom UCITS funds can provide tax advantages and diversification benefits compared to a purely US domiciled portfolio.”
The cross-listings consist of 30 equity ETFs and one fixed income fund, collectively housing around $6.3 billion in assets under management.
Most of the equity funds come from SSGA’s equity sector-focused line-up.
The firm has cross-listed its entire suites of US and European sector ETFs, accounting for over $1.1bn and $1.6bn in AUM, respectively, as well as five global sector funds with $600m total AUM.
The largest fund to be corss-listed, however, is the $840 million SPDR S&P 400 US Mid Cap UCITS ETF which provides exposure to US mid-caps via the S&P 400 Index, while the small-cap focused SPDR Russell 2000 US Small Cap UCITS ETF, linked to the Russell 2000 Index, has also been cross-listed.
As SSGA has previously cross-listed the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY* MM) on BMV, Mexican investors can now gain access to each of the US large-, mid-, and small-cap segments through SPDR ETFs.
The remaining equity ETFs provide investors with exposure to global or emerging market small-caps as well as Asian EM stocks.
The fixed income fund is the SPDR Bloomberg Barclays Global Aggregate Bond UCITS ETF. It is linked to the Bloomberg Barclays Global Aggregate Index, a flagship measure of global investment grade debt from 24 local currency markets. The index covers Treasury, government-related, corporate, and securitized fixed-rate bonds from both developed and emerging markets issuers.
